As each school year begins, Kelly Walsh DECA invites students who are enrolled in business-related classes to a Courtyard B-B-Q to learn what DECA is all about and they are then encouraged to join DECA. This year, a current officer showed a 4-minute video showcasing ICDC in April 2011 that he had produced.

Each year Kelly Walsh DECA works with local businesses and community groups to assist and learn. Just a few of their activities have included promoting entrepreneurship to both grade school and high school level students and teaching financial literacy to third and fourth graders at two local elementary schools. This year, DECA members are opening a coffee company at school which will be in operation before school starts each day. Chapter members have also provided research information to local businesses in a variety of marketing areas. View website.

Chapter Advisor Jill Thompson has been a DECA advisor for 8 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education and English Education and a Masters of Arts in English from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. DECA is a family affair with Mrs. Thompson as her daughter, Rebecca, is currently Wyoming DECA’s state president and her freshman son, Jacob, is a DECA novice.

Bryce Flammang joins Jill Thompson as a DECA advisor this year. Bryce has a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Chadron State College.
